DIR-3 KYC is an annual Know Your Customer filing that every person holding a Director Identification Number (DIN) must complete with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It keeps the DIN active and the MCA's records current.
Miss it, and your DIN is deactivated — blocking you from signing any company filings — and reactivation costs ₹5,000. This guide covers who must file, the eForm vs web option, the due date, and the process.
What is DIR-3 KYC (DIN KYC)?
DIR-3 KYC verifies that the details linked to a DIN — mobile number, email, address and identity — are up to date. It must be filed once every financial year.
There are two ways to file: the eForm DIR-3 KYC (used when details change or filing for the first time), and DIR-3 KYC Web (a simple OTP-based confirmation when nothing has changed since last year).
| Who files | Everyone holding a DIN as on 31 March |
|---|---|
| Due date | 30 September each year |
| eForm | DIR-3 KYC (for changes / first-time) |
| Web KYC | DIR-3 KYC Web (no change since last filing) |
| Late penalty | ₹5,000 to reactivate a deactivated DIN |
Deadline: 30 September
Who must file DIR-3 KYC
- Any individual who was allotted a DIN on or before 31 March of the financial year
- Applies even if the DIN is not currently used in any company
- Disqualified directors must also file to keep the DIN record accurate
Documents required
- DIN and PAN
- Aadhaar (for OTP linkage)
- Personal mobile number and email (a unique OTP is sent to each)
- Address proof and passport (for foreign nationals)
- Digital Signature Certificate for signing the eForm
Step-by-step process
- Check which form applies. If your details are unchanged and you filed KYC previously, use DIR-3 KYC Web. Otherwise use the eForm.
- Verify contact details. Ensure your mobile and email are current — a unique OTP is sent to each and must be entered.
- Fill and sign. For the eForm, complete details, attach documents, and have it certified by a practising CA/CS/CMA; sign with your DSC.
- Submit before 30 September. File on the MCA portal. There is no fee if filed on time.

| Process | Fill and upload the eForm with documents, attested by a professional | Log in and confirm via OTP to registered mobile and email |
| Documents | Required | Not required (just OTP) |
Penalties for non-compliance
- If not filed by 30 September, the DIN is marked 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC'
- A deactivated DIN cannot be used to sign any MCA filing
- Reactivation requires filing DIR-3 KYC with a late fee of ₹5,000
